About the course

GCSE Science is a core qualification that underpins progression into A-level STEM subjects and many future career pathways, including medicine, engineering, psychology, and environmental sciences.

      • Combined Science: Trilogy (Double Award – 2 GCSEs)

      • Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics – 3 GCSEs)

    Combined Science (Trilogy)

    • 6 papers total (2 Biology, 2 Chemistry, 2 Physics)

    • Each paper: 1 hour 15 minutes

    • Each paper: 70 marks

    • Grades awarded: 9–1 (two grades)

    Separate Sciences

    • 6 papers total (2 per science)

    • Each paper: 1 hour 45 minutes

    • Each paper: 100 marks

    • Grades awarded: 9–1 in each subject

    • Assessment: 100% written exams

    • Practical work: Required practicals assessed through exam questions

    • Exam series: May/June (November resit available for Combined Science in some cases)

    • Exam location: London at LMSC’s JCQ-approved centre

    Entry requirements

  • No formal prior science qualification required

  • Recommended: completion of Key Stage 3 Science or equivalent foundation knowledge

  • Students should be comfortable with basic Maths skills (graphs, formulae, rearranging equations)

  • International learners: completion of Grade 8–9 Science (or equivalent) recommended

  • A short diagnostic assessment may be used to confirm readiness and tier placement

  • Resit students welcome with tailored exam preparation support

    • Course outcome

    On completion, students achieve the AQA GCSE Science qualification(s), graded 9–1, recognised across the UK and internationally.
