The safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. We follow the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025 statutory guidance.

Although our students are mostly 16–19, everyone under 18 is legally a child. We also take safeguarding concerns seriously for students aged 18 and over.

Our Safeguarding Responsibilities

LMSC has a legal and moral duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under 18. We have “due regard” to:

Relevant Ofsted and DfE guidance for schools and colleges

In practice this means we:

Robust policies

Maintain robust safeguarding and child protection policies, reviewed at least annually.

Training and awareness

Ensure all staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training and read KCSIE Part One (or Annex A where appropriate).

Qualified leadership

Have a trained DSL and deputy DSLs with the time and support to fulfil their role.

Safer recruitment

Operate safer recruitment, including appropriate pre-appointment checks and ongoing vigilance.

Accurate records

Keep accurate, confidential records of concerns and referrals.

Partnership working

Work in partnership with local authority children’s services, the LADO, police and other agencies.
Provide a curriculum and environment that promote healthy relationships, online safety and student voice.
