The value of an individual session lies largely in what the teacher already knows about the student: the topics on which marks were dropped in the most recent mock examination, the methods that remain half-secure, and whether the constraint is subject knowledge or working under time. A tutor meeting a student for the first time spends the opening sessions establishing that, and those sessions are chargeable.

Because the subject teacher holds the student’s diagnostic reports and marked mock examinations, a session begins at the appropriate point.

When Individual Tuition Is Appropriate

A Specific Topic Is Holding a Grade Back

Individual tuition is appropriate.

Two or three hours addressing a weakness identified in a marked mock examination is the most effective use of the provision.

A Sequence of Lessons Has Been Missed

Use the included provision first.

Topic catch-up on request and access to the recorded lesson library are both included in the course fee.

More Teaching Is Required Generally

Consider the programme rather than the add-on.

Moving from part-time to full-time study adds sixty guided hours per subject. Purchasing sixty individual hours would cost £4,500.
