Results, Reviews and Certificates

On Thursday 12 August 2027, from the centre that entered you. We agree in advance how you want them delivered, and we hold contact details that need to be current in August. No centre can release results before the national release time.

We can agree an arrangement in advance, including release to an email address you nominate. What we cannot do is release results to a third party without your written authority, or release anything before the national time.

A post-results service in which the awarding body checks the marking of your paper. In its simplest form it is a clerical re-check, confirming that marks were totalled and recorded correctly. The fuller form is a review of marking, in which a senior examiner considers whether the mark scheme was applied correctly to your answers.

Requests are made through the centre, never by the candidate directly.

Each awarding body sets and publishes its own fees, and they differ by service and by board. We pass the awarding body’s charge on at cost and confirm the current figure before you commit to anything. Some boards refund the fee where a grade changes; confirm the current terms with us at the time.

Yes. Under the published arrangements a mark can go up, down or stay the same, and the revised mark stands. This is why requesting your script first, where the deadline allows, is usually the better order of operations.

Access to scripts provides a copy of your marked paper. It lets you and your teacher see how the mark scheme was applied before deciding whether a review is justified.

In most cases, yes, order it first. The exception is where you hold a university place and the priority review deadline is too close to allow it, in which case the decision has to be made quickly and on judgement.

They are set by the awarding bodies each year and fall within weeks of results day, with an earlier deadline for the priority service for candidates holding university places. They are short and they are not extended for candidates who were on holiday.

Ask us for the current dates for your board before results day, and be contactable in the second half of August.

An appeal follows a review whose outcome you dispute. It examines whether the awarding body applied its procedures correctly and whether the review reached a reasonable decision. There is an independent stage beyond the awarding body if the matter is not resolved.

An appeal is not another opinion on your answers. If the marking was correct and the answers were weak, an appeal cannot change that.

Tell the university immediately that a review has been requested, and use the priority service. Universities are used to this and many will hold a place while a priority review is decided, but that is their decision and it is made faster when they hear it from you early.

Do not decline an insurance offer or release yourself into Clearing on the assumption that a review will succeed.

In the autumn after results day. Awarding bodies produce them once the series is finalised and send them to the entering centre. There is a gap of weeks between results and certificates, which is normal and is why universities enrol on results slips rather than certificates.

In person at the centre, with photographic identification, or through someone you have authorised in writing. If you cannot attend, tell us and we will agree a forwarding method in writing first. Certificates are not held indefinitely, so collect promptly.

Awarding bodies do not generally reissue certificates. They will provide a certifying statement of results, on application and for a fee, which confirms your grades and is accepted by universities and employers as evidence.

Scan or photograph the certificate the day you receive it, and keep the original somewhere you will not have to think about it again.
