What an A-Level Resit Actually Costs in London
Almost every price you will be quoted for a resit is a tuition price. The exam entry, the practical endorsement, access arrangements and any late fee sit outside it. This page adds them all up, using our own published rates.

Resitting one A-Level in London costs the tuition fee plus the exam entry fee, which at our published rates is £2,690 in tuition and £375 in entry, £3,065 in total for a written-paper subject paid in full, and the figure rises if you need a practical endorsement, access arrangements or a late entry, each of which is charged separately by every provider.
The Five Things You Are Actually Paying for
A resit is not one charge. It is up to five, and providers differ mainly in how many of them they show you at the point of enquiry.
Tuition is teaching time against the specification. Exam entry is the fee a centre charges to register you with the awarding body and run you through the series. Practical or non-exam assessment is charged separately where a subject carries it and you cannot carry a previous result forward. Access arrangements carry an administration charge where you need extra time, a reader, a scribe or separate accommodation. Late entry is an awarding body surcharge that applies if the entry is made after the standard deadline.
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 prohibits drip pricing, revealing mandatory charges only late in the process. We publish all five categories in one place, on the fees page. We do not publish other providers' prices, because we have not audited them and would not want them quoted against us in the same way.

Worked Example One: Two Science Resits with the Endorsement Already Passed
A student holds Biology C and Chemistry C from Summer 2026, with a Pass in the practical endorsement in both. She needs BB for a deferred offer and is working four days a week. She resits both subjects on the weekend timetable for the Summer 2027 series.
Because both endorsements carry forward, she is taught and entered for written papers only. Tuition for two subjects is £5,100 paid in full, or £569 a month across ten months, which is £5,690. Exam entry is £375 a subject, so £750. There is no practical charge, no access arrangements charge and no late fee.
Total, paid in full: £5,850. Total, paid monthly: £6,440. The diagnostic assessment beforehand is free, and assessment, reference and UCAS support are included because she is a taught student.
Had she been quoted the science rate she did not need, £6,250 tuition and £995 an entry, the same year would have cost £8,240. The difference, £2,390, is the price of nobody asking about her endorsement.
Worked Example Two: One Science from Scratch, with Extra Time
A student left school without completing Year 13 and holds no Biology result at all. He needs the full A-Level including the practical endorsement, and he holds a diagnostic report supporting 25% extra time.
Tuition for one science with a new endorsement is £3,280 paid in full, or £365 a month across ten months, which is £3,650. Exam entry including the endorsement is £995. Access arrangements administration is £125, charged once for the series regardless of subject count.
Total, paid in full: £4,400. Total, paid monthly: £4,770.
If he adds an Easter revision intensive that is £595 more, and textbooks are charged at cost. Neither is required.
Worked Example Three: Three A-Levels in One Year, Applying to University
A career-changer with no recent qualifications takes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry full-time across one academic year, sitting all three in Summer 2027. He needs new practical endorsements in both sciences.
The accelerated three-subject rate is £9,700 paid in full, or £1,080 a month across ten months, which is £10,800. Exam entry is £395 for Mathematics, and £995 each for the two sciences with their endorsements, £2,385 in total.
Total, paid in full: £12,085. Total, paid monthly: £13,185. UCAS support and references are included because he is a taught student. There is no separate charge for mocks that form part of the programme.
Costs People Forget to Budget for
- Textbooks and revision guides, charged at cost, we do not mark up materials, but they are not free.
- Travel across London, four hours a week for thirty weeks, which for many students is the second largest line after tuition.
- An Easter revision intensive at £595 a subject, if you decide you need it in February.
- Additional mock exams at £95 each, beyond those included in the programme.
- One-to-one tuition at £75 an hour, if a specific topic is not moving.
- A late entry surcharge, if the entry is made after 21 February 2027.
- Re-marks and access to scripts after results, which awarding bodies charge for separately.
Late Entries: the Honest Position
Awarding bodies charge an increased entry fee after the standard deadline, and the surcharge rises again closer to the exams. The exact rates and cut-off dates differ by awarding body and are republished each year, so we do not quote figures we would have to keep correcting.
What we will commit to is this: whatever the awarding body charges, we pass it on at cost with no mark-up, and we tell you the figure in writing before you commit to the entry. The dates are set out on the deadlines page.
The cheapest late entry is the one you do not make. For the Summer 2027 series, the standard deadline is 21 February 2027.
Two Reductions and One Honest Limit
Our hardship rate lets you pay the discounted pay-in-full price in monthly instalments rather than up front, £269 a month for one subject rather than £299, £328 for one science, £970 for the one-year three-subject route, £1,300 for the one-year Medicine route. It is available on request and we do not ask for documentation.
A referral earns £100 in credit once the person you referred enrols and completes their first month. Siblings enrolled at the same time attract 10% off the second and any subsequent enrolment.
The limit is that public funding is generally not available for A-Level resits taken to improve a grade for a university application. That is a Department for Education rule about funding, not our policy, and it is explained on our funding guide.

It exists so that the decision is made on evidence. If the honest answer is that a resit will not move the grade far enough, we will tell you.
